NYUZ: Rebuilding a Legacy Platform into a Cloud-Native Transaction Engine
How Akasuya migrated NYUZ from a legacy system to a Next.js and Node.js platform on AWS with 99.9% uptime, faster transactions and a modern customer experience.
The problem
NYUZ was running on an ageing monolith that had grown over years of patches. Transactions were slow at peak hours, deployments required downtime, and the customer-facing interface no longer matched the brand's ambitions. Every new feature was risky because nobody fully understood the legacy codebase.
The solution
We proposed a phased rebuild rather than a big-bang rewrite: a new Next.js front-end backed by an Express.js API layer and MongoDB, deployed on AWS with autoscaling and zero-downtime releases. Legacy modules were replaced one at a time behind a routing layer so customers never saw a broken experience.
Technology
Next.js for a fast, SEO-friendly front-end with server-side rendering; Express.js services with MongoDB for flexible transaction records; AWS (ECS, RDS-backed caching, CloudFront) for global delivery; CI/CD with automated tests and blue-green deployment.
Implementation
Discovery and audit of the legacy system (2 weeks). Architecture and data migration plan. Four development sprints delivering the customer portal, transaction engine, admin dashboards and reporting. Parallel run followed by a weekend cut-over with rollback prepared.
Results
The platform has delivered 99.9% uptime since launch, transaction pages load in under a second, and the team now ships updates several times a week without downtime. The rebuilt front-end also gave NYUZ a modern brand presence that matches its positioning.
