Kathaa Jewels: A Headless Commerce Platform for Luxury Retail
How Akasuya architected a headless e-commerce platform for Kathaa Jewels on React, Node.js and MongoDB — scaling to over one million monthly active users while keeping the luxury experience.
The problem
Kathaa Jewels needed an online store that felt as premium as its showrooms. Template e-commerce platforms were slow, visually generic and couldn't handle the catalogue and traffic spikes around festive campaigns.
The solution
A headless commerce architecture: a React storefront optimised for imagery and motion, a Node.js API serving the product catalogue, and MongoDB for flexible product attributes (metal, purity, stones, customisation). Marketing pages and campaign micro-sites read from the same catalogue.
Technology
React.js storefront with image-first UX; Node.js services; MongoDB catalogue and order store; DigitalOcean infrastructure with CDN and caching for festive-season traffic; payment gateway and logistics integrations.
Implementation
Brand and UX design in parallel with catalogue data modelling. Storefront build with performance budgets enforced from the first sprint. Load testing before the festive launch. Post-launch conversion optimisation on product and checkout pages.
Results
The platform scales to over one million monthly active users, with fast product pages that preserve the luxury feel. Because the catalogue is headless, campaigns and new channels launch without touching the core store.
